Big Data Forum 23.png

OVERVIEW

AGENDA

Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, fueled by technological advancements that define the current and future smart societies, can modernize local ecosystems and processes that allow for better planning, management and delivery of products and services. In response to the local development needs of Trinidad and Tobago, AI and Big Data can drive intelligent solutions to engage and connect citizens, the business community, IFIs and other stakeholders in sustainable interventions to address existing and emerging challenges including assisting the public transportation sector to predict passenger volumes as precisely as possible and deliver a more efficient and cost-effective service while reducing congestion; smarter local government management solutions combining AI technology with real-time analytics to optimize waste collection, pick-up frequencies and other local community services; noise management solutions; and real time, informed social interventions regarding citizens, geographical location, their economic and social conditions.

Importantly, it embraces the vision, principles and priorities of the SG’s Data Strategy 2020-22, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goal 11 to make “cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” and inclusive digital transformation. The third edition of the Forum launches key technology-driven innovations arising from the first two editions; and examines the integration of Big Data and AI into sustainable development practices along the path towards smarter society status. It explores the role of IFIs, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in transforming business and society; discusses how technologically leading countries can leverage AI, Robotics and Big Data experiences to support the readiness of Trinidad and Tobago to excel in the smarter future; and the opportunities for digitization, digitalization and emerging technologies as local game changers of the future. The 3rd Forum is proposed as a physical two-day event and exposition, November 21 and 22, 2023 with a mix of panel discussions, keynotes, and presentations.

What is the Collegiate
Battle Bots Competition?

A youth segment, designed as a prompt engineering competition will be featured as part of the Trinidad and Tobago Big Data Forum on November 21-22, 2023 to engage sixth form secondary school students in an interactive educational activity that showcases their creative technological capacities.

The segment seeks to further the enthusiasm for Big Data and AI amongst the nation's youth. By encouraging younger generations to take part in this impactful initiative, the Forum proposes to create the environment  to cultivate future professionals who are well-versed in the understanding and use of Big Data and AI as part of the smarter future.

COLLEGIATE BATTLE BOTS

Concept
and Learning Objectives

With the advent of various generative and conversational AI tools, the concept of prompt engineering has come into focus and prominence. Prompt Engineering refers to the process of carefully constructing prompts or inputs for AI models, utilizing natural language, to instruct and enhance their performance on specific tasks.

The youth segment is proposed as a scenario where student teams will engage with a system utilizing prompts to create and instruct an AI bot in the form of an autonomous mech (a large combat robot) which will be placed into an arena to battle against other AI bots (one school team will battle with another school team).

The prompts will determine the way the AI bots engage each other with the aim of eliminating the other AI bots in the arena.

The segment is intended to achieve the following learning objectives:

  • Students will be introduced to generative and conversational AI

  • Students will be introduced to prompt engineering

  • Students will be introduced to available AI tools such as ChatGPT, Bard, Dall-E, MidJourney, etc.

Competition Engagement

The competition encourages students to develop an innovative solution or concept based on prompt engineering challenges. Student teams will  assemble at the Hyatt Regency on November 22, 2023 at 9:00am to participate in a live bots battle in the competition arena.

The format of the competition is as follows:

To ensure adequate time for completion of the competition in time, it is recommended that the number of participating schools be limited to sixteen.

The sixteen teams will be divided into four groups of four. Each team will play the other teams in their group once (six games per group) with winners being awarded points based on their bot’s performance.

The top eight teams (winners and runners up) will advance to a knockout quarter-final, semi-final and final.

Pre-Competition Testing and Familiarization

Selected teams will attend two sessions hosted by Teleios, the concept creators and coordinators, to be introduced to generative and conversational AI and prompt engineering. Each team will be given material to do further research/reading and resources to practice what they have learned.

Two weeks before competition day, student teams will be given access to a test arena where they can practice their prompts and hone their bots’ performance. Students will interface with the system via WhatsApp and will therefore need a phone or PC (laptop) to participate.

Competition
Date and Time

The competition will be held from 9:00am on November 22, 2023, the second day of the Trinidad and Tobago Big Data Forum 2023, at the Hyatt Regency, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.

Registration

Registration will be open to secondary schools across Trinidad and Tobago, will commence on Monday October 23, 2023 and close on Friday October 27, 2023.  Entries are limited to one per school,  and participation is restricted to interested students who are at the sixth form level. Teams are limited to 3 students.

Student teams may sign up via our official online email unrcott@gmail.com  where they will be required to provide the following information:

  1. Name of School

  2. Names of Team members, ages and form class

  3. A signed letter of authorization to participate from school principal or supervisor with the school stamp displayed

  4.  and a short description about your school’s interests in Big Data and AI.

Kindly note that registration is capped at 16 teams, so early registration is highly recommended.

Prizes

First, second and third placed teams will each receive handsets with the compliments of Huawei. All participants will receive tokens intended to support their journey further in the world of big data and technology.
